New EU Bioeconomy Strategy
The European Commission has adopted the new EU Bioeconomy Strategy.
The strategy’s vision includes offering fossil-free alternatives and creating new, stable income sources through bio-based materials and products. Higher education, along with re-skilling and up-skilling programmes, is seen as crucial to implementing the European bioeconomy.
The European Bioeconomy University (EBU) is recognised in the strategy as one of the key joint-force initiatives needed to achieve its goals. EBU members cover the full spectrum of bioeconomy expertise, from sustainable resource production to bio-based products enabled by innovative biotechnologies, all while considering environmental and social aspects of bioeconomy deployment.
To make the bioeconomy truly sustainable, EBU aims to cultivate the next generation of bioeconomy professionals, from biomass sourcing to bio-product design, who adopt circularity and sustainability, along with an entrepreneurial mindset and collaborative skills.
