EBU to develop its potential in lifelong learning
European Bioeconomy University (EBU) workshop generated valuable ideas on advancing the bioeconomy through lifelong learning and university–industry collaboration.
The event brought together EBU representatives, collaborators, and invited experts to reflect on how higher education institutions can support the implementation of the new EU Bioeconomy Strategy through lifelong learning, re- and upskilling, and stronger university–industry collaboration. During the workshop, participants:
✅ Provided an overview of the EBU universities’ experience in bioeconomy-related lifelong learning;
✅ Gained insights into industry expectations and needs in this field;
✅ Explored the potential of EBU and its collaborators to develop re- and upskilling opportunities for practitioners, while identifying key drivers and challenges;
✅ Considered available resources and funding opportunities, and outlined possible next steps.
The programme featured contributions from several EBU universities, BIOEAST UniNet, and representatives of Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and Cefic, highlighting the value of cross-sector dialogue in advancing bioeconomy education.
The workshop also created space for strategic reflection on EBU’s potential role and niche in European bioeconomy-related lifelong learning, as well as for identifying possible next steps in collaboration, position-building, and project preparation.
The event was organised by the University of Eastern Finland EBU Presidency team in Warsaw on 16-17 April and hosted by the Warsaw University of Life Sciences.
